The 3rd Annual Making Magic Show presented and supported by Boston Pizza and Boston Pizza Foundation

We are pleased to announce that Boston Pizza and Boston Pizza Foundation will be our 3rd Annual Making Magic Show Presenting Sponsors.  Throughout the years, Boston Pizza and Boston Pizza Foundation have been fantastic supporters to Cures for Kids and we are grateful for all they’ve done!

Cheryl Treliving, Executive Director of the Boston Pizza Foundation shares her thoughts on Cures for Kids and the Making Magic Show:

“Cures for Kids started as an idea and through hard work, dedication, and perseverance Perri Tutleman, along with her hardworking Board of Directors, has grown it into an accomplished, and well respected charitable organization having tremendous impact on children’s lives.

From  my very first meeting in 2009, when Perri pitched the Cures for Kids “Making Magic Show” partnership to Boston Pizza, it was evident she is an extraordinary young lady with maturity and insight beyond her years. As true to how engaging this young lady can be with her purpose, she continues to spend countless hours, furthering her research, expanding her personal volunteer reach, excelling at her academics and growing her Cures for Kids Foundation – translating her passions into community action and impact.

Cures for Kids 1st fundraising event, the “Making Magic Show”, was a sold out event raising almost $15,000; the 2nd year’s event was more than double in size raising $35,000; we are confident year 3 will also be a tremendous success!

Boston Pizza and the Boston Pizza Foundation are very proud supporters of the Cures for Kids Foundation and the Making Magic Show event!”

Again, thank you to our wonderful friends at Boston Pizza and Boston Pizza Foundation for their support.  See you guys at the event!

Winners of Mackenzie Investments’ 2011 Top Teen Philanthropy Search Announced

Canada NewsWire

TORONTO, Jan. 31, 2012

Canada’s teen philanthropists are changing the world

According to a poll done in support of the fourth annual search for Canada’s Top Teen Philanthropist, the majority of teen respondents are involved in charitable giving. 79 per cent donate to at least one charitable cause and spend at least one hour per month volunteering. In fact, while many teens are on a budget, it was found that 42 per cent of respondents donate 20 dollars per year or more.

While the teens polled seem quite active in terms of charitable giving, they believe that Canadians should be doing more in terms of charitable work. Over half (51 per cent) believe that Canadians do not give enough to charitable causes.

When it came to the respondents’ outlook on the future, 61 per cent believe that social problems will be more prevalent in 50 years. This number is up 12 per cent from 2010 polling.

Interestingly, many teens are also incorporating digital tools and social media into their charitable pursuits. 72 per cent of teen respondents have participated in a charity’s online activities and 60 per cent have joined an organization’s Facebook page.

Finding Canada’s Top Teen Philanthropist

Candidates were judged on a number of factors, including: the breadth of their volunteering and fundraising efforts, their leadership and creativity, their hands-on involvement in their philanthropic pursuits, the length and level of their involvement and the impact on their community and their charity.

Mackenzie also recognized the fine efforts of five additional teens with $500 each to be directed to the charity of their choice, as well as $500 cash:

Perri Tutelman, 18, Richmond, BC: Perri is the founder of Cures for Kids Foundation, a registered charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for children’s immunological disorders. More than $100,000 dollars has been raised through Perri’s efforts which were supported by the foundation’s signature fundraising event, the “Making Magic Show”.

Mackenzie Investments: Mackenzie Investments was founded in 1967, and is a leading investment management firm providing investment advisory and related services. With $61.6 billion in assets under management as of December 31, 2011, Mackenzie Investments distributes its investment services through multiple distribution channels to both retail and institutional investors. Mackenzie Investments is a member of the IGM Financial Inc. (TSX: IGM) group of companies. IGM Financial is one of Canada’s premier financial services companies with over $118 billion in total assets under management as of December 31, 2011.

The Making Magic Show 2012: Call for Event Team!

Hi everyone!  It is now that time to start planning the Making Magic Show for 2012 (yay!).  As you may know, the event is planned for Saturday, June 3 2012 at the River Rock Casino Resort.  The event is now in its 3rd year and we are looking for a creative and enthusiastic team to help make this event bigger and better!

We are looking for a number of people to support the planning team with sponsorship, promotion, talent coordination, ticket sales, administrative and event day logistics.  If you would like to offer your support and expertise, please let us know!  Please send me an email with why you’re interested in helping to plan the event and a little bit about yourself!

The planning team will meet about once a month to brainstorm ideas and go over event logistics.  Depending on your role, there will be various tasks to complete throughout the year.  Overall, you’ll be working with a fabulous team and have the chance to make a difference.

Whether it’s gaining experience or sharing your gifts, this is your time to give back to your community.  All funds raised at the Making Magic Show will go towards launching two innovative programs in support of children’s immunological disorders.

“The road to success is not crowded. Because while most are looking for ways to take, the truly successful people are finding ways to give. With a giving attitude, every situation is an opportunity for success.” ~ Unknown

Thank you so much for your support, I look forward to hearing from you!

– Amanda
